Our Bethesda condo renovation started as a dated, compartmentalized layout dimmed by dark, builder-grade finishes, reimagined for a busy executive who hosts often and trusted us completely with a brighter, more feminine and effortlessly open floor plan vision. We reconfigured the space by removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room and lowering the popcorn ceiling a few inches to accommodate slim recessed lighting brightening the entire footprint. A black glazed maple island, light taupe cabinetry, warm quartz countertops, and antique brass hardware with architectural mesh anchor the kitchen. The island offers just about as much storage as it does seating and is a natural landing spot for a quick bite, a casual meal, or a laptop afternoon, while a new dining space is defined by a new woven statement pendant and round jute rug.

In the living room, custom built-ins finished to match the kitchen cabinetry flank an electric fireplace beneath a warm oak mantel. By using similar finishes, fixtures and hardware the three rooms unite into one continuous, considered space. A deep sectional and a swivel barrel chair multiply the seating without ever crowding the room, and cherry blossom prints, the client's favorite, add a personal note to a palette of soft neutrals with hints of dusty mauve. The result is a layered, luminous home designed for gathering where each room opens into the next, an invitation, now, rather than a space simply for passing through. Refined, livable, feminine and completely her own.
